I found several local yarn store through the Internet for me to explore more "yarn adventures." I decided to visit them one by one and the first I chose was Knitting with Sandra.
Knitting with Sandra, a very stylish yarn store used to be under a different ownership. After my first trip to their store earlier this year, I received an email saying that they were closing. I was disappointed but also got a chance to buy some yarn and needles with very very very good prices when they had their closing sale.
Before I had a chance to visit the second store on my list, I got another email announcing the store's Grand Opening!! Whooohhh..... I was very excited to hear that and wanting to go visit them again since........
One afternoon while my boss wasn't in the office, I decided to take a long (really long... like 2 hours) lunch and I visited the store again. Their decoration and the setting is totally different now. The store I remembered was a little old fashioned. It was a typical mom-and-pop store. You can tell the store is getting old and renovation is definately needed. Ironically, their yarn in the store was all expensive. They only carry up-scaled brand yarn. Under the new management, the store has a new look. They repainted the store with brighter colors. The store now give me a very coazy feeliing. I can easily browse the store and see many varieties of yarn. The best part is they now carry yarn with more reasonable prices or the prices I can afford! (ooopppsss..... more shopping opportunities). I met the new owner, Belinda, and let her know how impress I was with their re-opening. She told me that several of them bought the store from the previous owner and hired the prior manager (Sandra) back to run the store. I looked at her and feel more impressed by their courage. With the economy now, I cannot believe they have the courrage to open up a new yarn store just because they love to knit.......
I decided to suppor them..... (hahahaha, what a good execuse for me to shop!). Well, I saw their beaded purses and feel I can make something like this to sell in my Etsy store. I am adding new item to the store although very very very slowly. So, I registered a special lesson from Sandra to learn about beaded knitting. The yarn I chose for my beaded purse is purple. I figured if I cannot sell it in my store, I can always give it to Sandy for her kindness to me and my family!
The night before my class, I was gathering my needle together for my first knitting lesson in over twenty years. I was nervous like a little girl putting together her backpack for the first day of school. Of course, I went to Sandra during my lunch time as well (shhhhh, please don't tell my boss). Sandra was very nice and started me on the purse. Now I need to go home and get as much as I could done before going back for next lesson.
This is where I am over the weekend:
Will post more pictures on the progess of my little purse.......
