It has been a few months when I started the doggy sweater. It was started when a group on FB is calling for donations. However, I didn't get to finish it before the date they requested. So, my dog got the benefit of owning it. Bobby is 11 years old, so I thought he should earn the respect from Happy who is only 7 years old. I thought the color might be too bright, but turn out to be not too bad when Bobby wears it.
It has been a month since I cast on the stitches for Andrew's socks. In the beginning, Andrew followed me everywhere to ask me when he would be able to wear his socks like Angie does. He gave up after 2 weeks or so. I was working between his socks and the beaded purse for Sandy. Of course, all the parties and get together for holidays got in the way during this holiday season as well. I finally got it done yesterday before the year end.
I found several local yarn store through the Internet for me to explore more "yarn adventures." I decided to visit them one by one and the first I chose was Knitting with Sandra.
After finishing my first pair of socks, I became more confident on getting more socks done. Of course, Angie is my next target to get my projects. HoHoHo. This time, I used a different pattern but still using the merino yarn I got from 100purewool.com. This pattern has more design into it. It uses the slip over ribbing to give flixibility to the socks. However, the cuff part has the design that I tend to make them too tight..... probably it's because I don't know how to use cable needle yet!!
I have been reading so many articles on knitting socks. There are books after books about different sock designs. It made me wonder --- Is it really worth to knit your own socks? Seriously, I can buy socks and nick socks less the price I will pay for the yarn..... I even asked my MIL and her feedback is the same. She teaches knitting in Taiwan and didn't recommend me to knit my own socks.
When a local yarn store close to my office closed earlier this year, I went over and bought some yarns that I have no idea what to do with..... hahaha......
Take wants me to work on a pair of knee warmer because her God-Mother is having trouble with her knees. I made a pair using the wool yarn I bought earlier this year. It turned out to be kind of nice! :-) I hope it will help her knee after all:
After three soakers (two functional ones), I changed my channel. I am going to try the longies. It's winter now and LA has been raining. Just like his sister and brother, Austin kicks off his blanket at night all the time. So, sometimes if I am not using AIO for nights, I will put a diaper, diaper cover and the pants on him. His little bud looks really funny. Although soaker does help reduce one layer when I am with him during day time. I still need to add one extry layer (pants) on him at night. To solve this, I am going to knit the longies.
I think I am addicted to knitting. So far, I have made two soaker for Austin already. The first one was a tester so I set it aside. The second one was a good soaker, but kind of small. I was going to try a wrap style soaker, but realized it requires felting and sewing. I then give it up. I started this flat soaker pattern called Amy's Flat Knit Soaker. Originally desiged to be crocheted, but I think the owner later converted to a knitted pattern. With the experience I had with Tiny Bird, this soaker seems to be easier. I now have more experience on increasing and decreasing the stitches..... pretty neat, huh. Before I sew up the sides, this is what it looks like:
Toward the end of last year, I made a soaker with the left over yarn I had in hand. Really, my goal is to make a wool soaker/cover for Austin since I am CDing him. CDing = Cloth Diaper + ing. With lanolin in wool, the acid smell can be neutralized (so said many many parents who tried it). Since I am pretty bad in sewing PUL covered cloth diaper, I decided to stay in "fitted" style which I can manage to sew. The drawback is that now I will need to solve the cover issue...... not very nice. I don't like the plastic one. It works great. It blocks the leakage and holds Austin's pee, but it can be VERY smelly as well. Anyway, I made this:
I made it! I made it! I have been reading about homemade detergent. So far, there are two different versions I read and people used it praised about it so much. After reading so many postings, I decided to make a batch myself. If it works... great, but if it doesn't, at least I have all the cleaning product I can use to clean up my house!! HAHA!
