I have been reading so many articles on knitting socks. There are books after books about different sock designs. It made me wonder --- Is it really worth to knit your own socks? Seriously, I can buy socks and nick socks less the price I will pay for the yarn..... I even asked my MIL and her feedback is the same. She teaches knitting in Taiwan and didn't recommend me to knit my own socks.
Well, the project got delayed. I was busy with so many other things until this sock yarn is on sale. I mean.... the prices itches me. So, I bought some .... heehee... and yes, just some! The yarn I bought is 100% superwash merino which is perfect for knitting socks. I started with a toe-up pattern and ended up ribbed the project. The pattern I chose required good balancing. My "increasing" skill was not quite there yet. The pattern seemed to be very twisted, so I gave up. The second pattern I chose was a fairly simple one, but yet still another toe-up pattern. This time, I was much better in increasing the stitch but read the pattern wrong. I ribbed it off again. Since then, I put my yarn aside thinking I should've listened to my MIL for not even starting the sock project. I even started to look for pattern I can use my sock yarn with. After a few weeks, I came across this website has the video tutorial on socks. Very curiously, I clicked on the link and started watching the videos. After two videos, I think I can do it. This serious videos teaches the basic of knitting socks. The pattern is the simplest pattern and the method is top-down using magic look method. I picked up my sock yarn again. Take laughed at me and teased me if I am going spend another two months on my socks again. I gave him a look, ran upstairs and played videos on my laptop. One after one, knitting socks begin to become easier and easier. The first sock is just about to be done. The first piece was finished over my friend's place. We went to visit Joanne after a birthday party. Kids were playing with their little friends. Take was concentrating on his video games and I was working on my socks while chatting with Joanne and her husband. I was so excited when I finally get the first piece done... and the second piece was knitted within another week. Take was pretty impressed, but yet still want to tease me. He suggested me to frame this pair since it took me soooooo long to finish them! I nodded my head and thinking about my next pair..... for my mom.. My First Socks and my yarn stash......
