I made it! I made it! I have been reading about homemade detergent. So far, there are two different versions I read and people used it praised about it so much. After reading so many postings, I decided to make a batch myself. If it works... great, but if it doesn't, at least I have all the cleaning product I can use to clean up my house!! HAHA!
Here is the detergent recipe I got from the discussion group:
Ingredients:
1 box super washing soda (55 oz, arm and hammer brand)
1/2 cup borax
1/2 cup calgon water softening powder (I used the liquid one since I cannot find the powder type)
1/2 cup simple green (liquid cleaner)
2 cups oxygen cleaner (dollar store brand is fine ex: Sun brand)
Instruction:
Mix all together
Store it in a closed, labeled container.
Use 1 scoop (the scoop from the oxygen cleaner) for diapers, 2 scoops for regular laundry, or experiment to see what amount works for you.
When I was mixing it, Angie came in and asked me if I was making something for them to eat. Of course not. I told her it's something for the washer to eat. Immediately, she offered to help. Well, little help doesn't hurt. So, I let her mixed it a little bit. Take also questioning me what all the cleaning stuff is doing on the kitchen counter. As soon as I told him I was making homemade detergent, he rolled his eyes exactly the way when I told him I was going to make some cloth diapers. It only took me less than 10 minutes to mix them. Getting all the ingredients was harder than mixing them! I was lucky to get the stuff I need in a store on my way to pick up boys on Monday. As of now, I have used it in two loads of laundry and I am very happy with the result. Clothes is clean and soft. The detergent works just as well as the pricey detergent I bought before.
